Range Cookers – Your Summer Choice For Delicious Food
Range cookers. For some this conjures up images of cold Winter nights and solid fuel heating. A warm cozy house with their beloved Firebird Range at the centre of their evening. It doesn’t take much imagination to see how useful your range oven can be all year around. While the mercurial British Summer time might be playing tricks with the weather, and outdoor BBQ’s can never be guaranteed dry more than a few hours in advance, we take a look at some of the fantastic Summer ideas your Firebird Range can bring.
So, Summer is here and along with the great weather, it brings us great food. Here are two fun and delicious recipes you can prepare using just a few ingredients and an oven.
CAJUN STYLE OVEN FRIES
Baked fries are a healthier and more delicious alternative to traditionally made French fries. They are nutritious, delicious and delightfully simple to prepare.
You will need:
- 1. 4 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced.
- 2. 1 teaspoon of garlic powder.
- 3. 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
- 4. 1 teaspoon paprika.
- 5. Half teaspoon of salt.
- 6. Half teaspoon of onion powder.
- 7. ¼ teaspoon of oregano.
- 8. ¼ teaspoon of thyme.
- 9. ¼ teaspoon of sugar.
- 10. ¼ teaspoon of cumin.
- 11. ¼ teaspoon of Tabasco sauce.
- 12.1/8 teaspoon cayenne (variable).
- 13. 1/8 teaspoon of black paper.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Mix the garlic powder, onion powder, Tabasco sauce, vegetable oil, black pepper, sugar, cumin, salt, cayenne, oregano and thyme in a small bowl until you get a fine paste. Apply the paste onto the fries then place them on a baking sheet, ensuring that they do not touch. The baking time will vary with the size of your fries but it should range between 30 and 35 minutes. Turn them once to ensure both sides are well cooked. Serve hot with dipping.
OVEN FRIED EGGPLANT DISH
This is an unexpected method of preparing eggplant but the results are delicious and surprisingly low on calories.
You will need:
- 1. 1lb of eggplant unpeeled and sliced into � inch slices.
- 2. 1/3 cup of breadcrumbs.
- 3. 1/3 cup of grated parmesan cheese.
- 4. 1 tablespoon of minced onion.
- 5. Half cup of mayonnaise.
- 6. Half teaspoon of dried Italian seasoning vegetable oil.
Mix the mayonnaise and the minced onion into a fine paste and spread on the slices of eggplant. Use a small bowl to combine the Italian seasoning with the breadcrumbs and the parmesan cheese and scrub the eggplant into the resulting mixture. Place the coated eggplant slices onto a baking sheet sprayed with a thin film of oil. Bake at 425 degrees for 24 minutes, turning them at regular intervals until both sides are golden brown.
These are just but two reasons why we all love summer cuisine. The best part is you can get as creative with your recipe so do not be afraid to spruce them up with a few extra ingredients.
